Experimental Phase

The experimental phase will consist of a 12 month intervention. 

If you are a subject with regular menstrual cycles, during the 12 month intervention you will complete the following:

  1. Two physical exam
  2. Three interviews with the nutritionist and clinical psychologist
  3. Four 3 day food logs
  4. Four 7 day periods of monitoring physical activity
  5. Five resting metabolism tests
  6. Four sets of 7 questionnaires
  7. Twelve body weight measurements (every month)
  8. One bone density test
  9. Four body fat tests
  10. Daily urine collections for three months
  11. Five metabolic blood sample (4 tablespoons, 80ml)
  12. Five bone marker blood sample (2 tablespoons, 40 mls)
  13. Five 3 day in a row 2nd morning urine samples
  14. Completion of daily logs to monitor exercise training and the
    menstrual cycle daily for the entire study

If you are a subject with absent or irregular menstrual cycles, during the 12 month intervention you will complete the following:

  1. Four physical exams
  2. Fourteen interviews with the nutritionist and clinical psychologist
  3. Fourteen 3 day food logs
  4. Fourteen 7 day periods of monitoring physical activity
  5. Five resting metabolism tests
  6. Four sets of 7 questionnaires
  7. Twenty-four body weight measurements (every other week)
  8. One bone density test
  9. Four body fat tests
  10. Daily urine collections for 12 months
